Next James Bond Tom Hiddleston? Or Are We Being Mislead?

Is the next James Bond Tom Hiddleston? Coral reported on Saturday that they had suspended betting for the next Bond. They had received a large 4 figure sum on The Night Manager actor, Tom Hiddleston, that shortened the odds to 1-2 and finally suspended the betting completely.

The rumour was that Hiddleston was seen with Bond director, Sam Mendes and that the announcement that he would be named as James Bond would be made in the coming days.

BoyleSports followed suit and so did Betfair.

Liam Glynn, BoyleSports’ spokesperson said:

“Judging by the gamble on Tom Hiddleston we expect that it’s only a matter of days before he is announced as Daniel Craig’s replacement.”

He added “Our traders smelt a rat after one UK online punter placed a four figure bet on Hiddleston at 6/4 and had no choice but to suspend the betting after numerous requests on Sunday morning. Tom Hardy, Idris Elba and Damian Lewis have been previously gambled but it now looks that Hiddlestone will be announced as the new 007 so we have suspended betting until further news is revealed.”

We reported back in April that Hiddleston was favourite to be the next James Bond and rumours  have abound ever since. However Hiddleston has since denied this on Graham Norton and other names have been put in the hat – mainly Idris Elba and Ladbrokes have reported that Poldark star, Aidan Turner, has been popular, being backed into 5-2.

So what do we think? Is the next James Bond Tom Hiddleston ?

The problem with bets like ‘Next James Bond’ is that people do tend to know in the industry. Even if Mendes did meet Hiddleston, sometimes putting 2 and 2 together doesn’t always equal 4. However, the fact that someone was willing to put such a large amount on such an unlikely betting market – and so many bookies suspending betting – feels as if there maybe some truth to this.

However, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power haven’t closed the market – you can still get Hiddleston for 4-6 (Ladbrokes>All Sports>TV & Specials).  And I’m sure they haven’t kept the market open just for fun. They’re seeing a lot of money for Turner so maybe they’re trying to lure in some more punters. Just keeping things interesting! Let us know what you  think
