Brexit Betting: Remain odds cut on back of latest poll (updated June 9th)
A new opinion poll has seen the Brexit betting market shift towards Remain (ie odds on Remain have shortened).
This is following several days of the odds on Remain lengthening in light of a series of Opinion Polls showing Leave either having a lead or the race as neck and neck.
The new poll was carried out by ORB, and shows an extended lead for the Remain campaign, with 52 per cent saying they want to stay in the EU verses 40 per cent who want to leave.
It should be noted that after taking into account only those who are certain to vote, Remain’s lead shrinks to one point – on 48 per cent against 47 per cent.
This re-enforces how important turnout is to the Leave campaign. The ORB poll shows that while the majority might back back Stay, Leave voters are more likely to vote. Overall 59 per cent of respondents say they will vote, but when split between Remain voters and Leave voters, the breakdown is only 54 per cent of Remain voters say they are certain to vote while 69 per cent of leave voters say they will.
Off the back of this bookmakers have pushed out their odds on Leave winning from around 2/1 a couple days ago to best odds of 11/4 today.
