UKIP Leadership Betting as favourite Steven Woolfe excluded
There has been a big twist in the UKIP Leadership betting market, with the favourite Steven Woolfe being deemed ineligible to stand as a result of his not having submitted the necessary forms in time.
UKIP’s national executive committee met today and decided in a majority vote that Woolfe should not be included in the list of candidates.
Woolfe himself has expressed his disappointment at the decision and it has been reported three members of the UKIP NEC have resigned off the back of the vote, urging a vote of no confidence and stating that the NEC ‘is no longer fit for purpose.’
Announcing the decision, the NEC issued a statement stating “By a clear majority of NEC members Steven Woolfe MEP’s application was considered to be ineligible as a result of a late submission and as such he did not meet the eligibility criteria.”
Woolfe claims he submitted the application just before the midday deadline, but due to technical problems with the application site, it was only processed after 12pm.
The candidates in the UKIP Leadership election are therefore restricted to Jonathan Arnott, Bill Etheridge, Diane James, Lisa Duffy, Phillip Broughton and Liz Jones

From a betting market perspective, losing the odds on favourite has had a dramatic effect on the odds offered.
As it happens two of the bookmakers (Betfair and PaddyPower) still offer prices on Woolfe, on the basis that there could be pressure put on the NEC to reconsider their decision in an Emergency General Meeting that is called.
The other candidates are 50/1 or longer, and do not at this point look like they are in serious consideration. Though in politics you never know!
